Well I finally managed to get a long ride done in Perth. The last couple of weekends have been taken up with silly little things like moving interstate, so this has been the first chance I have had to get a decent ride under my belt in Perth. The ride was pretty standard for a Saturday, some hill repeats, some intervals, but for whatever reason it was particularly painful. Perhaps it is the hills in a new town, or the new winds, not sure but I guess I will find out in the next few weeks.
Still there seems to be some pretty nice things about riding around in Perth. The weather this morning was glorious. Plus I think I saw more people out riding this morning than I did in the two and a half years I spent riding around Darwin.
At least the run off the bike wasn't to bad. The pace was right etc and it felt pretty comfortable, so that was something. I am still figuring out the whole running without a shirt thing here though. In Darwin I would usually run without a shirt, since it was normally a choice between a shirt or heat exhaustion. However, down here it seems quite uncommon. I went without this morning since I was in pain and it was warm. But I am always wondering if it is considered slightly inappropriate, like 'a cycling gear in the workplace' type of thing. Oh well with winter coming I am expecting the issue to more or less solve itself.
Now hopefully for some fun. I am just about to head out to my first Saturday swim session with Swim Smooth, which is entirely focused on open water swimming apparently. I have been training with Swim Smooth at Claremont Pool since I moved to Perth and so far every session has been awesome. So hopefully this session lives up to that standard. No pressure.
