Run Day

In the Daryl Stanley school of triathlon, Wednesday is run day. I would not describe running as my favourite discipline, so I usually struggle with Wednesdays, but there you go. If I wanted easy I should have chosen a different sport.

Was up painfully early this morning, 4:00am to be exact. For me Wednesday morning looks like this:

Up at 4:00am
Drive to beach
Do my run which includes a bit of sand and a bit of interval work and usually takes about 85 minutes.
Leave beach
Get home at 6:00am to get ready for work
Leave home at 7:00am.

It is kind of nice being out and about at that time of day though, it is a very empty place then. Also, at least the beach is fairly well lit. The equivalent session in Darwin involves running up a beach in the pitch black, when you never know what (or who) you might be stepping on. One of the few beaches with a long enough stretch of sand in Darwin means running through the nudist beach, which can always be an interesting/slightly hair raising, exercise. Although at that time in the morning you are usually pretty alone. You never quite know though...

One more run session to go and then the rest of the day is mine.

Swim last night was very good again, although quite challenging. Each session I have with the Swim Smooth guys continues to leave me impressed.

Dusting off the old wetsuit tonight for an early morning swim in the Swan River tomorrow, could be an interesting experience. Fingers crossed it doesn't end up with me getting ingested by any kind of large marine creatures. I would feel somewhat cheated if I survived two and a half years in Darwin without getting eaten by a crocodile, only for something to get me in Perth.
