Ahhhh rest day, beautiful rest day how I adore you, let me count the ways as I lie in bed during my sleep in. Nah stuff that I am going back to sleep.
Don't get me wrong, I love the training and the racing, I wouldn't do it otherwise, but as a result of doing those things, rest day becomes a weekly little slice of heaven. Joy.
In other news, I have ice packs at work again. Hooray.
| The ice packs are back |
Not long after the Singapore 70.3 in March last year I developed a stress fracture in my right shin - ouch. This resulted in many weeks of rehab, such as long walks and water running, ahh fun times, all while trying to train for the 70.3 Worlds in September. It also got me very paranoid about shin splints, resulting in me icing my legs, a lot, particularly on running heavy days. It also resulted in lots of other obvious changes, like strength work from the physio, different shoes, different insoles etc. Ever since I made all these changes I haven't had a problem. Being the superstitious little athlete that I am though, I am afraid to change anything in case I get hurt again. Therefore, I still do all this stuff.
In Darwin it wasn't a problem, we had a freezer at work. However, since moving to Perth, there is only one tiny little bar fridge that has the capability to freeze stuff. Wasn't a problem, my ice packs fitted just fine. Until Wednesday last week that is. On Wednesday I came in to find the ice packs defrosted and everything the fridge warm. Disaster, what had happened??? Well investigations ensued obviously and it turned out it was the power point, not the fridge, that had died. But that is all fixed now and so I have ice packs again. Celebrations all-round.
Merry Rest Day to all.
