As far as I am aware the surgery all went to plan and and I now have a small metal plate in my shoulder. I have an X-ray scheduled soon which I guess will confirm all that.
Certainly from my end the surgery went smoothly. I have never been under a general anaesthetic before and I always sort of wondered what it would be like. It really is like they show on TV, one minute I was taking deep breathes the next I was waking up in recovery. Easy.
Right now I am feeling okay, not heaps of pain, but a lot of that may be due the painkillers I am on. Throat is quite hoarse, which I think is a result of having a breathing tube during surgery. I am also really tired, which may just be the drugs, or my body's reaction to what is essentially trauma. No other side effects, no nausea or anything, which is great.
So far so good.
I have tonight in hospital, a little bit of a check up in the morning and then home. All done. That is when the real effort will begin I suspect, recovering from the surgery. Getting the rehab underway.
Unfortunately all this means that I don't think I will be making it down to spectate at the Busselton Ironman. Bit bummed about that, since I was really looking forward to going down to watch, catching up with folks etc. I just can't see myself making it though, between the lack of use in one arm, the pain etc the trip will just be one thing too many. I will definitely be watching online though.
Well I think that is me done. I did have grand plans about using the time in hospital today to catch up on my race report from Western Sydney 70.3 (I haven't forgotten), but I am just not quite with it enough mentally to put that together, plus all this one handed typing is doing my head in. I think I might just have a bit of a rest instead. Speaking of which...
