Well here we are again, getting towards the pointy end of the race preparations. Almost time for travel.
Most of the travel preparations are done. Yes, I still need to do most of my packing, but I have plenty of time put aside for that this afternoon and so hopefully that won't be a problem. Other than that though all I really need to get done between now and jumping on a plane is getting some sleep.
Speaking of sleep. Early start tomorrow, although not insane. The flight is at 7:00am, which means a pre-dawn trip to the airport, still this isn't actually as a bad a thing as it sounds. Heading into this race I am being quite mindful of the fact that there is a three hour time difference between Perth and Sydney. The race starts at 6:00am, that is already pretty early for a race start, but in Perth time it will be a rather insane 3:00am. I obviously will be awake even earlier to get myself ready and down to the race venue. With all this in mind I am happy to start the process of shifting my body clock a few hours early tonight. Most definitely early to bed and early to rise tonight.
Travel preparations and last minute panicking aside, I also have to keep training and so a bit of that happened this morning with a swim down with the Swim Smooth Squad. The session was its usual solid hit out. Fair to say this morning was the last tough session I will be doing before race day. It is looking very likely that the swim at Penrith will not be wetsuit legal so this morning I spent the session in my swim skin, just to reacquaint myself with it a bit more. I have had a few non-wetsuit races where I feel like I under have performed on the swim. I am a reasonable swimmer and technically a wetsuit benefits me a little bit less and so a non-wetsuit swim should be in my favour, however, that hasn't been my experience. Heading into the race all my swim training has been feeling good and I am keen for my race to reflect that. This morning's session was about doing everything I can to ensure that.
The session went well. Whilst they aren't wetsuits, a good swim skin certainly does make a difference to speed. Having a good solid swim where the speed felt easy and the swimming comfortable was a nice confidence boost to have at this late stage.
That is all the training for the day. Actually that is all my training done until Friday. Tomorrow is going to be a complete write off with the entire day spent travelling. By the time I get to Penrith tomorrow I hope I will have time to put the bike together, buy some food and settle in, but I am not expecting anything more than that. Not a total loss though. I might be on a plane all day, but it is a great chance for recovery if done correctly.
I am not sure how online I will be over the next few days. I almost certainly won't be online tomorrow. I am hoping to be able to maintain my regular updates as normal, but I am not sure what the Internet situation will be over east. However, if I can't get online to do the blog rest assured I will be making regular updates on Facebook, a link to which can be found on the left of the page.
