Floaty speed

Nothing quite like swimming in a wetsuit to make you feel good.

Taper week means that the only session I have had today was a swim this morning down with the Swim Smooth squad. As I mentioned last Sunday, I haven't worn my wetsuit much since the middle of the year so I have been feeling like I could do with a bit more time in it. That time happened today.

The point of today's swim was really just to go and roll the arms over, spend a bit of time being active and in the wetsuit. Still, I spent enough time swimming with intent to get that lovely feeling of easy speed that comes with a wetsuit. Nice to see too that the good feeling that I have had in the pool recently translated to the wetsuit too. Very happy with some of the times that I saw. Wetsuit is feeling like home again.

A few other things have happened today. Firstly, my first delivery of Compressport compression gear arrived today. Like a lot of people in sport I long ago became convinced by the benefits of compression gear. The gains may not be massive, but they are certainly of the every little bit counts sort. I particularly like the improvements in recovery that comes with compression. I have tried a number of different compression brands over the years, most of the usual suspects. But, whilst I have been aware of Compressport, I haven't used their gear until recently. I have to say I have been very impressed, particularly by the quality. Take the running shorts for example, they are made from more of a 'material' feeling fabric, rather than the usual Lycra. First impressions are that this different approach has several benefits. For one this gear breathes. Possibly more importantly it feels like it will last forever. It certainly has a warranty to back that up. Needless to say the compression is top notch as well. I am really looking forward to spending some time in this gear.

The other thing that happened is this.

We recently decided to get some custom printed T-shirts put together. We have done this sort of thing before and whilst getting them printed isn't any great hassle, this time around we thought we might put some together ourselves. The image you see above was our first attempt at a top for our son. You may be able to spot rather glaring mistake. Hopefully the next few go a bit smoother.

Over to Rottnest tomorrow for some race prep. Things start to get very real after that.
