Family Day

Very nice relaxing Sunday to finish off my post race recovery week. It is nice to wake up feeling slack and knowing that you are allowed to be. With that in mind I haven't trained today and I have no plans to. I have a power test on the bike tomorrow and it is always good to go into these sorts of tests fresh, so I figured having a nice relaxing day wasn't a bad idea. Plus it was raining pretty healthily when I got up, so staying in bed was no great struggle.

Instead of training I am spending the day having a bit of quality family time before jumping face first into training proper next week. I am always conscious of the time sacrifices my family make to allow me to train, so it is nice to make that up at least a little bit when I get the chance.

Quality family time has meant that the morning has been spent playing with 50 year old meccano that we recently inherited, a trip to the markets and then fishing down the river in the rain. Lots of fun.

You never fully get away from the world of Triathlon though. At least some time today will have to be spent getting the TT bike all dressed up for my time trial in the morning. That means race wheels back on, brake pads changed over (for braking on carbon wheels) etc. Once the bike is set up I will probably head out for a little spin too, just to make sure everything is working. I would rather find that stuff out today than in the morning.

One other thing that will have to go back on the bike is my Garmin Vectors, which I am pretty sure are working again now. In the end it did require another pedal pod purchase, which I am not happy about, but that is what it needed. I am very much hoping this is the last pedal pod I have to replace in a long time. I realised today that I have been ranting on about pedal pods for about a week now and haven't really explained what they are. On a pair of Garmin Vectors they are the silver bit that hangs down below.

The pod takes the power information that is measured by the pedal and transmits it to your bike computer. No transmission, no power data and you simply have a very expensive, heavy set of Look Keo pedals. Anyway, hopefully mine are all sorted now. They sure had better be...

I mentioned yesterday that I might head out for a swim today, but in the end I actually got the swim done yesterday. One of those last minute, just shut up and go type decisions. Glad I got there. It was a good solid Saturday Swim Smooth session without being a total face melter, which they can sometimes be. Just what I needed to get back to swimming and also to test my shoulder. Shoulder wise I went okay. Pulled up a little bit sore, but not to bad. Really just the sort of soreness you get from working bruised muscles. By the time I have my next swim on Wednesday I should be fine.

Now, back to the 50 year old Meccano.
