Spoke to soon

Yesterday when I mentioned that my run this morning would be easier than the one I did on Tuesday I really sort of set myself up for a fall. Sure enough that came this morning. Whilst the run was quite different to Tuesday's, in the end it ended up being its own special snowflake of pain. A special snowflake that I really struggled with.

The session was made up of a whole bunch of 3 minute intervals and whilst it wasn't a complete explosion, I did fade quite a bit. I don't really consider it a failure though. These sessions are all very important parts of me improving my run, they are kind of supposed to be tough. Rather than consider the session a loss, I just focus on the good that pushing to my limits are doing me. Still hurts though.

On the bike tonight. Despite the heavy feeling I currently have in my legs I am looking forward to the session. Any excuse to jump on the new Cervelo S5. I still only have the one ride from the weekend under my belt on the new bike and so I am really keen to get more time. Plus this ride will be over more familiar ground, so it should give me a better feel for what the bike is capable of. As an added benefit it is looking like the weather is shaping up to be lovely cycling weather, light winds and cool temperatures. Should be a nice time out I think.

Moving away from training and I had an exciting confirmation yesterday. As of the 1st of April I will officially be moving to part time work. When I say part time I will still be working 4 days a week. I will be having Fridays off, so every weekend will be a long weekend.

Working less is something I have always been keen to look into, and the granting of my professional license has been the perfect catalyst for the change. People may ask what benefit of having a single day off will bring me and that would be a fair question. However, I think having that extra time to do admin type jobs, relax a bit and just plain rest up before a solid weekend of training will have tangible benefits. To be honest I realised some time ago that I actually need some working days in my week to give my week some structure. Certainly the days where I struggle to train in the afternoons the most tend to be the weekends. So for me working part time is a balance between that structure and getting the benefit of additional recovery time. I am hoping the four days on, three days off will provide the balance I am after.

Plus, working less. How can that be a bad thing.
