So today has been quite the thing. As I mentioned yesterday, last night was spent in a small tent camped on an oval with my daughter. As predicted it was a bunch of fun, although I could have done without the piercing shrill of excited pre-pubescent boys echoing around the camp until about 10:30 at night. It makes sleep surprisingly difficult.
Still despite the cramped quarters, the unusual bed, the piercing cries etc I slept surprisingly well and I got a real true sleep in. With nowhere to be and no particular time to be there I stayed in bed until my daughter woke up, which was after 6:00am. Luxury.
Once the camp was over it was time to get on with the day, so about 9:00am I got out on the bike. It wasn't a particularly long ride, but it was tough, tough, tough. Fast (actually the quickest 90km I have done outside a race) and quite satisfying, but tough. I can't say I hit all my goals, but I am satisfied that I gave an honest effort attempting them. Plus I finished the ride still feeling strongish, rather than absolutely destroyed, which is also a positive.
The afternoon session was actually a genuine recovery session and after this morning's ride, I think I sort of needed it. The instructions for the session were to head down to the pool and do a bit of easy swimming and water running and just unwind a little mentally, so that is exactly what I did. We packed up the family and headed down to Fremantle Pool for about an hour. I got in a bit of a play with the kids as well as some swimming, low impact jogging and stretching. I have to say I jumped out of the pool feeling pretty good. It was a nice change to head down there with the specific goal of just taking it easy.
Brick session in the morning to finish off the week. A bit of time on the trainer followed by a solid run. But before that some stretching and then some much needed sleep, this time not serenaded by the shrieks of excited children.
