Almost Ready

Okay, so after making my post yesterday about lists, I realised that one of the things I had put on my list for doing today was putting together my packing list. So yes, in effect I did actually make a list to remind me to make a list.

I guess I am just that kind of person.

Packing is now mostly done. The bike is away, most of the essential racing stuff is in a bag. Now it is just other non essential stuff. Like clothes...

That shouldn't actually take me all that long tonight, so the plan is to get that done early have a stretch and then have a fairly early night.

I say early night because I have an early start in the morning and then a very long day afterwards. When I say early, I suspect the morning will start with a three. Although tomorrow is probably one day where I can get away with being a little sleep deprived. I am not exactly racing, or even training tomorrow, in fact my main activities for tomorrow are mostly just sitting in various forms of transport and panicking. So I should have ample opportunity for rest. Not to mention a few days in Subic Bay itself to catch up. As well as that, one of the few benefits of doing trips like this without the family is that rest is much easier to come by. The downsides kind of go without saying.

Hopefully the day of travel is fairly pain free. Fingers crossed. In terms of planning I have done everything I can to make it that way. As painful as my early morning will be, I am hoping that it is worth it in the long run, since I am travelling during the day rather than doing any crazy red eye business. Red eye flights might work okay for business travel or holidays, but effectively losing a whole night of sleep on the way to a race never works in your favour. Even if I get up at 3:00am, I am still likely to be getting around 6 hours of sleep, which is enough to get me through the day. Much better than flying out at 11:00pm or 1:00am or something like that, which never really lets you settle down.

I am interested to see how tomorrow goes. I have never been to the Philippines before, but I have heard good things from a few different friends. Tomorrow is really just transit, but Thursday will be when the finding of bearings really occurs. In terms of race logistics, this event is quite a spread out affair, with the finish line a reasonable distance from the event hotels and the start line even further away. The organisers have put on regular shuttles so that should help things. Plus the bike is always an option, but that depends a bit on the roads being friendly enough for cycling. We shall have to see on that front.

Speaking of tomorrow. One thing I am fairly certain of is that I will not have time for a blog entry, that will not be happening tomorrow. However, my intentions are to make some posts from the Philippines, I am pretty sure I will be able to. So keep an eye out from Thursday.

As well as packing and preparing for travel, there has of course been a little bit of training on this, the second day of taper. Training today was made up of a swim this morning. Quite a lovely one at that. I have mentioned before that coming into race week I find training difficult. A big part of me doesn't want to focus on training, just wants to think about the race. But at the same time another big part of me knows that the final week of training is important. It makes motivation to train hard to come by. This morning though, no real big issues. Once I was down at the pool I had a great old time. It was just the right sort of session, a bit of steady stuff, a bit of thinking stuff and a bit of hard stuff just to remind the body that it can.

Preparation wise, I am almost good to go.

The bags are packed (almost)
The boxes are ticked
The lists are all complete.

Talk to you from Subic Bay
