Swimmity swim

Well I seem to be more or less back to normal now. As I mentioned yesterday, I was still pretty worn out yesterday from paddling for the Rottnest Channel Swim, but today it was back to business as usual.

Business as usual meant it was down to the pool this morning for a bit of a swim. Every time I do a swim session by myself I am glad that I have the Swim Smooth training app at my disposal and this morning was no different.

Swim Smooth App

Why am I so glad you may ask? Well I always struggle for motivation when it comes to swimming by myself. I know from experience that if I am doing a solo swim I need to go down to the pool with a plan. If I don't I always find myself just floating around without much direction to the session. This morning's swim was a recovery swim and sometimes they are the worst of all since the temptation is to just head down and do drills. Drills are fine, but typically I end up filling in the gaps between the drills with fairly aimless laps, trying to pad out the distance.

The Swim Smooth App removes that problem.

Take this morning for instance. The guidance from Daryl was for it to be a recovery swim involving some paddle work. The Swim Smooth app provides 49 session plans for "Pure Technical" sessions. I figured that "Pure Technical" would be a good equivalent to a recovery session. The toughest part of the session was sorting through the 49 session plans to find one that fitted what I was after. In the end I selected one that had some paddles work and a bit of other stuff and then I was off. Simple as that. By the time I was at the pool I knew exactly what I was going to do. A nice 3km, purposeful session. It completely removed that "Hmmm, what should I do now" moment I often get.

That makes me nice and happy.

Speaking of happy, when I was grabbing the link I used above I noticed that the App now offers a 48 hour free trial period. As far as I am aware that is a new feature. Very cool though. I always feel a bit strange saying "this thing is awesome, but you have to take my word for it". Now you don't have to. If you have ever wondered what I was talking about when I refer to the app, I strongly recommend signing up to the free offer and having a look. Make sure you have a couple of hours free when you do though because there is A LOT of stuff on there.

At this time I should also point out that I don't get anything free from Swim Smooth. My glowing review of the app is prompted by the fact that I am a big big fan of the squad and what Paul Newsome does, rather than any material benefit that I get.
