Urgghhhh. Struggle Town this morning.
For various reasons I have had trouble getting enough sleep this week. No big losses of sleep, just missing 10 minutes here, 15 minutes there. It adds up though and I really felt it this morning. I got out of bed and very seriously considered crawling back into it.
The program for this morning was a bit of a run and I wasn't particularly in the mood. Everything was tired, my legs were tired and so was my brain. I just couldn't be bothered mustering up the mental energy required to get me through a run. In the end I got there then.
To be honest what got me out the door was the knowledge that this was a session that I couldn't afford to miss. I am not sure those sessions actually exist, but if they do, I knew this wasn't one of them. Once I got going, the legs were still tired, but the session went fine. Better than the very similar run that I did Tuesday morning if I am honest. A good reminder that sometimes you just need to switch off your brain and get on with it.
The run this morning is sandwiched between a couple of bike sessions like a good dollop of Nutella. The session last night was done on the trainer. I well and truly made my pain deposit in the Kickr bank (refer to my post yesterday). Tough session on a warm night, with some very high intensity short intervals. Ouchy. Went well though with all the power targets met. Hurt getting there though.
The session tonight should be a bit more low key, with a bit of a recovery spin. I am making a concerted effort to use my recovery sessions more effectively and not just as another chance to smash myself, which is how I tend to use them. These recovery spins are specifically what I had in mind when I made that resolution. I will see how I go tonight with that. I am not just planning on toddling around the river, but at the same time I won't be trying to break any power records. Possibly except for the Freeway Criterium, which is the section of the ride home where all the folks riding home from work try to out do each other. Crushing souls down that section is just plain fun.
