Back to the training stuff

So back to the whole training thing and today has been a tough day of it.

I have had a day off work today and so today has been taken up almost entirely with hanging out and exercise. The hanging out was done with various parents of friends of our children which has been quite a pleasant and grown up way to spend a day.

The exercise bit has been made up of swimming and two hours on the trainer. Swimming went well this morning, albeit painfully. Fairly standard Friday morning really. Swimming on Friday morning is a bit of a threshold session, which is always a fun challenge, but the thing about swimming at threshold is that it tends to sting a little.

Whilst the swim was a tough session, it was the two hours on the trainer that really knocked me flat. I am not entirely sure why it hurt so much. It has been a solid week on the bike so there might have been some cumulative fatigue. However, I also wonder if my power metre was acting a little funny. I use my Garmin Vectors when I am on the Kickr (product placement much) and whilst the power output of the Vectors dont usually match that of the Kickr, these days they are reasonably close. I say these days because when I first got the Kickr I found that there was usually a consistent 20 Watt difference between the Vectors and the Kickr. However, since some patches to the Kickr software I have found that the difference has been more like 10 Watts. Anyway, today the difference between the average power on the Kickr and the average power on the Vectors was 30 Watts, which is a little bit too much in my books. So I am wondering if part of the reason I am stuffed is because I was working harder than I thought I was. Although having said that, the heart rate wasn't through the roof, so I am not all that sure. Perhaps the legs are just tired.

Whatever the reason, it hurt, a lot. I really thought I wouldn't get through the session, and since completing it I have been feeling off all day. Knocked me right down.

Glad I managed to get through though.

Moving on.

Paddling to Rottnest Island tomorrow. Bit of a merry jaunt. I am of course not doing this for giggles, but rather to support my friend Shao Wu who is taking part in the Rottnest Channel Swim. Should be an interesting day, although a fairly long one too. As a result of the long day, I may not get to doing a post tomorrow. So if there isn't an update tomorrow you know what has happened.
