A training sort of day today, which is good, because I had some training to do.
Day started off with 100km of riding in the wind. The wind bit wasn't actually a planned, it just turned up and decided to come along. Generous really.
Tough ride. Intense would be the word I would use. Mainly because the session included lots of riding hard. It had hill repeats (riding hard) and some 15 minute intervals (more riding hard). The target power levels for the intervals was a bit of a step up, so I was a little bit nervous about how it would go. However, I am pleased to say it went okay. I faded a bit on the last interval, although it wasn't a total explosion, so even that one I am pretty happy with. Solid session though.
I also had a swim today that went nicely, although I suspect I am a little bit sunburned. I can't see because it is my back, but judging by how I feel, I suspect I am ever so slightly pink.
Between the various bits of training and getting exposed to the elements, the rest of the day was crammed with other stuff. Some of that other stuff was made up of preparing for the Rottnest Channel Swim which is next Saturday. As I mentioned the other day I am part of the support team for my mate Shao who is taking on the swim solo. I will be doing some work as a support paddler for him, so today was all about setting up the boat, the first step of which was actually getting the boat. Handy. We also spent a bit of time picking up bits and pieces to decorate the boat with to make it easily identifiable since Shao and I have to find each other at the 500m mark. Tomorrow will do a bit of the actual decorating and take the boat for a practice paddle.
The other big part of today was spent celebrating our son's second birthday. Amazing to think the big guy is two already. I think he has had a good day, he certainly has a lot more cars to play with now, including a Fire Engine with the world loudest siren, so lots of positives there.
A bit of running in the morning. Birthday cake and sleep before that though.
