Back on par

I have had a pretty good 24 hours or so of training, so I am now, more or less, back on track.

I was out running last night, and fair to say it was a painful session. But it is also done, which is one of my favourite ways for tough sessions to be. Like I mentioned yesterday, it was a bit of a run walk, which on paper seems harmless enough. However, in practice the running was fast and the walking was short. All up it added up to 30 minutes or running close to my limit. On top of that it was very windy which meant that half of the efforts had an extra bit of painful goodness sprinkled on top.

I would be lying if I said that I hit my time targets for all the efforts. I got there (or close) on about half of them. But nearly all of them were in ballpark, so I took a lot of confidence from the session.

Plus it was just great to catch up on the session and get it in the bank.

This morning it was time for a fun little brick session. This session was one of those aimed squarely at the Olympic Distance State Champs next weekend. 50km on the bike and 3km of running off the bike. The 50km on the bike absolutely flew by. The ride was quick and was really a lot of fun. The run afterwards was only short, but a bit on the painful side. It felt like I was working a fair bit for the pace I was getting. I think part of that was feeling my run from last night. It went okay, and the time was a step in the right direction, but I have had quicker 3km runs in my life. Still, it is all good work.

This afternoon I had a lovely, non training, treat. My parents are still in town at the moment and so they offered to take the kids for a few hours to let my wife and I have the afternoon to ourselves. I would usually swim on a Saturday afternoon, but this was to good an opportunity to miss and so the swim will wait until tomorrow.

I would like to say that we took the opportunity to really seize life and go bungy jumping or something, but really we just went and had a nice coffee and then browsed some shops enjoying the luxury of not having to leave because certain people were bored, or at risk of destroying the place. We nearly weren't even as exciting as that, with a top contender for the activity of the afternoon being having a nap.

Don't get me wrong, kids are awesome, and ours in particular (I am fairly sure I am an impartial judge on that). But sometimes it is nice to have the chance to give them to somebody else for a few hours.

Another brick session in the morning, this one with a bit less riding and a bit more running.
