Sickity

So the inevitable has happened. I have got a cold, well at least the start of one.

At this time of year it is really just a matter of when rather than if you are going to get ill, particularly when you throw kids into the mix, those guys pick up everything. I have been feeling pretty average since yesterday afternoon and in hindsight it would explain why my training session felt so poor yesterday morning. Not feeling like death's door or anything, but certainly a bit head coldy and sore throaty and generally a bit average.

As I have written before, when I get sick I tend to take the approach of hit it hard and fast. Rest up and rest up big time in order to try and shutdown the cold before it gets going. I am not sure if that philosophy works, but at least it means the colds don't tend to linger. Given that, I didn't train yesterday afternoon and I haven't trained at all today. I am heading out on a work trip tomorrow and so I was borderline about training tomorrow anyway, but given the development of this cold I will be erring on the side of rest.

Actually, to be fair, this cold couldn't have timed itself any better. As I said I am about to travel for work and then after that we are going on a family holiday, all of which means I will be taking a bit of a break from full on training for about two weeks. So while this cold is forcing me to take a break from training, it is a break that I was going to be taking anyway, this has just caused it to occur a couple of days early. Given that getting a cold sometime this winter was almost inevitable then this couldn't have come at a better time. See, always a silver lining if you look hard enough.

Certainly not thrilled to be unwell, it is always a frustrating experience. But it was pretty much a given at some point and there isn't a lot to be gained by getting angry about it so I might as well just settle in and work on getting over it as quickly as possible.
