Here we are, at the end of my first full week back of training. Phew, glad to have made it.
All up the week of training has been pretty good. Quite happy with it has panned out, probably one of the more effective weeks of training I have had in a while, all sessions complete and sessions goals largely achieved. If I was plugging the program into TrainingPeaks it would be a solid week of green, which is all you can ever really aim for.
The week hasn't all been successes though. Still battling with getting enough sleep, something I failed at spectacularly at this week. I will have to get better at it if I am to sustain quality training until the end of this training phase in 12 weeks time. A new week and a new opportunity to bring my sleeping habits into line, which is something I will be working on, starting tonight.
Fatigue wise I am still feeling okay, despite the rather solid week of training and the poor sleep practices. I suspect the fatigue is being mostly offset by the two weeks off I had before this one, which isn't something I am going to get again. If I can't improve my sleep and recovery, then the fatigue is going to catch me up pretty quickly, so it is definitely something to work on.
Besides the fatigue management side of things aside, the week has been pretty darn successful though. Before our recent holiday I was struggling a little bit with the motivation levels and the break has certainly served to refresh that which is great. As the training block continues and the fatigue builds I am sure that motivation will wane, but so far so good.
This week was only the very first small step towards race day in 12 weeks time. The journey is a pretty long one, but it is made up of many small steps just like this one. Hopefully I can make each of the following steps as good as this first one.
