So here I am about 4 days into my new training program. Very much in the honeymoon phase but so far so good.
Last night I was in the gym for the first time and tonight I am about to head out for my first run in a few weeks. I have tried to be a bit sensible with the ramp up in training and us such I don't think the training volume this week will be a huge jump over last week, however, the make up of training hours is a little bit different.
The different training has meant that I am a bit tired and a little sore in unusual places, but on the whole I have enjoyed having a program again. I have said a few times that there is something nice about knowing what you are doing each day and that has certainly been the case.
One of the challenges has of course been managing the additional soreness and fatigue, particularly with a new gym program in the mix. On the whole I think I have managed okay and it hasn't impacted the key sessions too much, hitting the required intensities at the required times. Certainly some bits of this week's sessions haven't been spot on, but the majority have been. Hopefully as I get further into the program and muscle soreness becomes a bit less of an issue then this becomes less of a concern, however, one thing I will be keeping an eye on is that the gym sessions don't endanger the quality of key sessions. Strength work is a supplement after all, the key sessions are, well they are key.
Anyway, good to be getting back on with things. Early days yet, but hoping that this week is the first of many good quality weeks of training. Looking forward to it.
