All done, videos are recorded.
Huh? I hear you mutter.
If you remember back to Friday I mentioned that one of my athletes had asked me to record myself answering a bunch of their questions for a vlog they are doing about their first Ironman. Well those videos are done.
As I mentioned on Friday, not really something that sits in my comfort zone, but I was a little surprised that once I got going it wasn't all that bad. You can kind of get into it a little bit once you get over the weirdness of talking to a camera and get into the actual answer you are trying to give. Took me a while to get it done, after all there were 15 questions and some of them I had to think about a bit, but still, glad I was able to help out. Box ticked.
In other coaching news I started working my way through my coaching re-certification requirements today. I think I wrote last week how Triathlon Australia have significantly increased the requirements for coaching re-validation this year. You really have to demonstrate that your skills are current and up to date. The list of requirements in order to re-new your coaching license is as long as my arm probably about 2 days of work. And that is just to re-validate a Development Coach license, it is quite an ask given that lots of Development Coaches are simply volunteers at clubs. I really hope that once you have provided proof of competency in some of these areas you aren't required to do it every year. It is pretty onerous.
As I wrote last Friday, I am not against the requirement to demonstrate continual competence, in the end it is important that coaches know what they are doing. But if I have to upload the same certificates every year that could wear a little thin.
So far the re-validation hasn't been too bad. The big thing was the first aid certificate, which I sorted out last week, after that it is just a bunch of online training courses, some of which are better than others (if you haven't looked, I would encourage you to do the ASADA online training courses, they are very good). If you include the first aid certificate I am a bit over half way. A bit of "Play by the Rules" stuff and a few things from ASADA and a couple of others, about 5 hours remaining I suspect. Then I am done.
It will be a relief to simply get on with the actual coaching bit.
