Fun

A nice little reminder today that sometimes the best thing you can do with training is get out and have some fun.

As I mentioned the other day it was a Public Holiday in Perth today, no work for us. I was keen to use the extra day to do a bit of training, a bit of housework, and a bit of relaxing. I think I can successfully say I managed all three.

On the training side of things I wasn't quite sure what to do. Training has been pretty solid for the last couple of days and so I wasn't sure I had a big intense session in me. I usually do recovery on Friday, so what to do today/ I definitely wanted to make the most of the public holiday, so I didn't want to just stay in bed. What to do, what to do?

Well in the end the solution that I came up with was to go out and have fun. In this case it was go out and play in the surf. Still exercise, still some skills and technique benefit gained, but certainly not a flat out session. Maybe not a heap of fitness gained, but some physical benefit, some technical benefit and a whole lot of relaxation benefit. I count that as a bit of a win.

Okay, you so you can't exactly base an entire program on going out and playing. A whole bunch of training needs to be about getting and do some hard work, however, we should never lose sight of the fact that the end point of training is supposed to be fun, enjoyment and a sense of fulfilment. Sometimes going out and having fun is the best thing you can do.
