Quiet time

Now that is done and finished with things are looking to take a turn for the quieter around here.

After the Busselton 70.3 the Perth triathlon season officially switches to off season mode. Pretty much everyone takes a break other than those training for Cairns or training for a northern hemisphere race like Kona. For the coaches things can get pretty quiet for a couple of weeks, which is usually fairly welcome by this time of the season.

That is certainly the case for me right now. Over half my athletes are still training, but the off season means that I have a few weeks break from any face to face coaching which is nice. I enjoy coaching but it is nice to have the break and not head out coaching when it is getting so wet, cold and dark.

The arrival of the off season officially brings to a close my second season of coaching. So far so good. I won't lie, I haven't enjoyed every moment of it, but on balance I have enjoyed it more than I haven't. I have certainly found it very fulfilling.

I think the coaching thing is going okay too. I was doing a tally the other day and over the two seasons I have had:

  • 5 x qualifiers for 70.3 Worlds
  • 1 x qualifier for Kona
  • 1 x national AG podium
  • 1 x qualification for ITU Worlds

Not a bad start I feel. Certainly enough to make me keen to keep going and see what happens next.

A bit of quiet time first though I think.
