T minus 3 days for Busso Half Ironman now.
The nervous energy in the triathlon population of town is palpable. I am fairly sure the Bureau of Meteorology website has probably nearly crashed from the number of triathletes constantly checking it. It could be that the level of panic around town is slowly rising, but I hope not.
The forecast has kind of, maybe, perhaps, improved. It has changed at least, although I am not sure if it is better or worse or just the same. The chance of rain has decreased, there is still a risk of a thunderstorm and I think the winds are marginally weaker, although that depends a lot of which forecast you look at. Chatting to a mate today who is friends with the organisers, they are desperate for a good, smooth race that involves a swim leg, so fingers crossed that the forecast continues to improve. Certainly the event could do with the boost.
All that aside though, I liked the message that fellow Front Runner coach Raf Baugh posted to the squad today:
Which is really the crux of what I posted last night. The weather will be what it is and your stress and worry won't change the forecast, however, you can change your preparation and make sure you have done everything possible to ensure race day success no matter the conditions. Making sure you are tapering correctly, recovering well, eating correctly and following your pre-race nutrition plan, getting to the race venue with plenty of time, not causing yourself undue stress etc. The list of things that are within your power to change is very long, it doesn't include the weather but it doesn't really have to.
Controlling the controllables.
