Start of the week

Bike day tomorrow.

Tomorrow is my weekly bike session with Front Runner Sports. Like I mentioned last week, the session is a great chance to catch up with the athletes face to face, but it also gives some time on the bike for myself. Kind of two birds with one stone there. It is one of my more favourite sessions of the week.

The Tuesday bike sessions are all about Threshold work for our athletes and with our Sprint Distance State Championships coming up in a couple of weeks time, now is a good time to be doing this work. For me the session is more about survival, given how little I ride these days. Usually it is a good morning out for everyone involved.

Besides the cycling, I am taking things pretty easy this week, well kind of. I have another paddling race this week so I am kind of on a taper. I say kind of because to be honest I am not that fatigued, so I am not really recovering from much. I had a pretty easy week of training last week and so while I have a bit of muscle soreness I am not that tired. Given that I will be backing off my training load a little, but not entirely. My main reduction will be cutting out the weights so that I don't hit the race on the weekend with any soreness. The race is on Sunday so I will also be taking it pretty easy on Saturday. Given the race is only an hour long though, I don't feel like I need much more of a taper than that. I will be keeping an eye on TrainingPeaks obviously to keep the fatigue levels in check, but my gut feel is that I will be able to train almost entirely as normal this week. That is the plan anyway.

Training normal was the call of the day this morning too, which meant that this morning was a nice recovery paddle. I headed into the session feeling a bit tired, but pretty sore, particularly in the legs. Not entirely sure what that was from, but it could have just been from a heavy weekend of training. As is often the case when it comes to recovery sessions I certainly felt better afterwards and so I am glad that I went to the effort. On recovery days it is always so tempting to simply stay in bed. Sleep is recovery after all. But I usually find that spending some time doing easy exercise is worth it, resulting in less soreness and generally feeling better. Hopefully that time spent doing recovery pays off tomorrow on the bike.

I will be finding out tomorrow.
