Returning routine

Back coaching the Thursday night run with Stadium Triathlon club tonight. Lots of fun.

Given it was the second run session on the year I thought I would keep things pretty simple tonight, just a series of 1km efforts, either 4, 5 or 6 depending on running speed with 1 minute in between. Simple and classic, but certainly not easy.

Plenty of people down there tonight are on the tough return to training after a bit of a break. We got them to take it a bit easier tonight, we don't want to injure anyone after all, but it was good that they were down there doing the work. After a bit of a break it has to be hard before it gets easier but you have to make a start at some point, which plenty of people did tonight. I always remind people that the fitness and enjoyment will come back quicker than they think, but it usually take a couple of weeks of things feeling a bit horrible first. If you can relish the challenge and enjoy the effort then the return of fitness can be a very rewarding experience.

For me the session was a lot of fun. It has been weeks since I coached one of these sessions (from before Christmas) and so it was good to get back down and see everyone, continue this little running journey we have been on together. They really are a great group of people and so coaching the session is always a lot of fun. Tonight was no exception. Glad to be back in the swing of it.

Speaking of being back in the swing, back down the pool tomorrow. I only have a few weeks left until I am doing the 3.6km Busselton Jetty Open Water swim, so I probably need to be making the most of the swim sessions I have remaining. Just keep swimming as somebody famous once said.
