Racing tomorrow

A bit of a paddling race on tomorrow. Nothing major, but an event that I wouldn't mind doing okay in.

Preparation for the event has gone reasonably well with some good training and a taper that I think has gone to plan, nothing more you can really do from that perspective. I would have like to got in a bit more training during the week, particularly some more race specific sessions, but that lack of training has meant that I am more recovered that I often am before races. If I am honest missing those extra sessions has meant that my taper is probably about where it should be, although I am worried I might regret that lack of specificity. Nothing to do about that now though.

It has been a few months since my last proper paddle race and with Christmas etc in between I am not as fit as I was then, but this race is quite a bit shorter and so I am hoping that the comparative lack of fitness doesn't hinder me too much. Besides in these races technique often counts for more than fitness and I think I have improved a bit in that aspect, despite the aforementioned lack of specific work in the past week.

The biggest challenge with the event tomorrow is going to be the weather. The forecast for tomorrow is particularly hot (about 40 degrees) and the winds are not that favourable either. It could make the event just a little unpleasant and a bit of a war of attrition, we will just have to see what conditions turn up on the day. Hopefully they aren't as miserable as forecast, but a slightly tougher event might actually suit me. As they say, you can only race in what you are given, and everybody is dealing with the same thing.

Typically I do okay on tough days, and I am hoping that, combined with a taper than has gone pretty well, will mean the day goes okay tomorrow. The conditions could mean the day is a bit more technical than I am ready for, but I will have to cross that bridge if it comes along. As I have said, it is hardly sheep stations, but I would still like to do okay.

My biggest issue at the moment is being super tired and so I think I will go and do something about that now.
