A bit of a run this morning. Going for a run on a Sunday morning is unusual for me, but I haven't managed to run yet this week and I was keen to continue on from the good run I had last Saturday, so out I went.
For those that don't remember, the run last week was a very cruisy 12km with some friends. It was the furthest I have run in absolutely ages and to my surprise it didn't result in my untimely demise. Given how the run went I have been keen to keep up the longer, but low intensity, run sessions as there is something very satisfying about covering a decent amount of distance.
With the above in mind I headed out to run for an hour today, which is quite a long way for me at the moment. I knew that would be worth about 12km if I took it nice and steady and so it wasn't going to be a massive jump from my last run, but still a good little bit of progress. I also knew that 12km was going to be close to my current limit, so I was keen give my limits a bit of a nudge.
The run didn't end up feeling quite as nice as my previous one, but I did manage to get through the hour and covered a bit over the 12km so I am quite happy with that. I think the main reason the run didn't feel as good was that I fairly fatigued this morning and so I think I was feeling a bit of that, but happy with the outcome all the same.
Hopefully I can continue to build these slightly "longer" runs into my schedule as I really do enjoy them. It would be nice to have this run and another in my weekly plan, but at the moment I seem to struggle to fit more than one run a week in. Sounds a bit silly as I type that, but that is just the way the week fills up at the moment. Still, I know that if I seriously want to build a bit more mileage into my life one run a week is not going to cut it. Something to work on going forward.
The run from this morning polished off what ended up being a good solid week of exercise for me. As I have written about several times, I was hoping to use this holiday period to get in a block of decent training and I think I have managed to do just that. I am a bit tired now, but it has been very satisfying to feel like fitness is returning. A nice way to finish the week.
And now if you don't mind I think I will sign off for 2018. Obviously there is one more day of 2018 to go, but I am currently up in Guilderton with my family and I suspect tomorrow is going to be a pretty busy day and so I am going to preempt that and say that I won't be blogging tomorrow. 2018 has been an interesting year for me, a year where a lot of the big changes that occurred in 2017 have solidified into routine and also a year where I have taken on new challenges and tried new things. It has been a year of evolution rather than revolution and I see that as a good thing, it is nice to feel like life is improving without having to shatter the mold. I will be hoping to see more of the same in 2019. With that I think I will sign off for now.
Wishing everyone a Happy New Year and I will see everyone in 2019.
