It was touch and go for a little bit there today, but I managed to get a run done. Finally. It has been a couple of weeks.
Given my lack of recent running I kept my ambitions pretty moderate today, only aiming for 30 minutes. Mission accomplished
All up the run was nicely okay, I survived the 30 minutes so that was something. I almost didn't get out for the run at all when I realised I had actually bought two different shoes with me. Last week I completely forgot my running gear and this week I didn't bring the right gear, so I was starting to wonder whether there was a running deity out there somewhere that I had angered. More likely the result of trying to think of too many things at once and packing gear in a rush (also partly because the different shoes look darn similar). Luckily for the run today I still managed to bring a left shoe and a right shoe so I was at least covered on those bases. While the shoes were different, I was pretty keen to get a run done so I thought I would give it a crack with two dissimilar shoes. It turned out to not be that big a deal, they felt different for sure, but not terribly so. Wouldn't be choice A, but at least the run occurred.
The coaching of the Stadium Tri Club run session afterwards went nicely okay too. A good challenging session for the fine folks from Stadium Tri Club, which was exactly what they were after. Good people, nice weather, good location. Lovely way to spend the early evening.
While today was all about my first run in two weeks, tomorrow will be all about the swim. Unfortunately I haven't been able to swim with the Swim Smooth guys for a couple of weeks as the squad has been super busy and I haven't been able to get a spot. Getting down to swim with the squad was my main motivation for swimming, and so without the squad I have been swim free for a couple of weeks. Unfortunately I haven't made it into the squad session again this week, but now I am getting a bit desperate for a swim, so I will head down to the pool in the morning and jump into one of the public lanes. Again not choice A, but better than no swim at all in my opinion.
Having not swum for a few weeks I am not expecting the session to be a particularly happy place, but I am hoping that by around half way swimming will be starting to feel about normal again. Pretty sure it will be all good by the end of the session, but it might just take a bit of unpleasantness to get there.
As with all these things just getting out and doing some training is the important first step. They might feel hard and unpleasant at the start, but fitness improves and the body remembers what it is trying to do and things get better. Getting out there in the first place is the important bit.
