Weekend Wrap

Made it to the end of an awesome weekend of training and miscellaneous stuff. Just what weekends are for.

On the training side of things I got to a few training sessions that I have been meaning to do for a while but haven't been able to for one reason or another, usually weather and conditions related. The sessions were more of a technical nature and so can be slotted in where ever they fit, but I just haven't got around to them until now. We all know we need to do technical work, but they can be the easiest sessions to put off as we tell ourselves that fitness and strength are more important. Well finally this weekend the conditions lined and I was out of excuses so I managed to get out the door. Consider that box ticked.

On the coaching side of life I had a few programs to write this weekend. A real mixture of athletes this weekend, some people who are pretty new to the sport, one person who is really struggling to find their 'why' and a person who flies off to Kona at the end of this week. Just a bit of a range.

For the guy heading to Kona crunch time is nearly here. Really the work has been done, the next two weeks are about staying healthy and getting to Hawaii in one piece. Unfortunately his lead up has been a bit marred by injury and so he isn't in the form that he was when he qualified in Cairns in June. However, in the past few weeks since his injury calmed down he has squeezed in some good quality training and based on his training this weekend I would say he is ready to race. Will his time be as good as it would have been? Well that is hard to say, there are lots of factors that can derail a Kona race and fitness is just one of them, but he certainly has the fitness and capability to put together a race that he can be proud of. That is our focus heading into the race in two weeks time. Race to plan and be proud of your achievement, if he can succeed in those two areas then I think he can consider the race a success. Just the small matter of flying to Hawaii now....

The family part of life was also a busy one this weekend. We are getting ready to move house in about a month and so currently every spare moment is crammed with trying to get ready for that. As you can imagine that fills the day pretty effectively. As well as that the kids are on school holiday at the moment which means lots of family fun time and excursions. It means the days are loads of fun at the moment, but they are also super busy. My wife and I are tending to collapse into bed at the end of each day, tired but satisfied with the knowledge that we couldn't have squeezed much more into the day, which is exactly how today was.

Speaking of collapsing into bed....
