Ups and Downs

Really hard day today. Not training wise, just life wise. Sometimes life is like that.

With life being a bowl of lemons today I haven't done any exercise. I was planning on having a very easy recovery day today after the long ride yesterday, it just ended up being a bit easier than planned. Sometimes that is what life demands.

While I wasn't able to get any training done today, I did manage to do a bit of coaching.

It was a fairly miserable evening down at the pool tonight, rain, wind, the whole nine yards. Yet despite the miserable weather we had a good group of a dozen people turn up. Swimming in miserable weather should be easy, after all you are getting wet anyway. However, every swim I have coached in the rain has been low numbers. Not tonight though. Tonight we had a dozen hardcore triathletes turn up for a nice solid threshold session. It was great to see, a highlight of a miserable day.

The session we had tonight was a bit of a swimming classic, the sort of session I used to do all the time when I was growing up. 15 or 20 x 100m done at a pretty solid pace. Just what the threshold doctor ordered. These sorts of sessions can get a bit dull if you do them all the time, but from time to time they can be a lot of fun. Steady to start with, challenging in the middle and pretty darn tough at the end. Great for helping develop some pace and gain a bit of swimming speed. Great session for practicing pacing too. So it was tonight.

Sometimes when you are having a bad day all you need is to watch a group of good people push and challenge themselves to make things look a little rosier.
