Very surprising swim session this morning.
I have written before about my suspected link between paddling and swimming. The link is fairly logical, the two exercises use very similar muscle groups after all, so it makes sense that they would be mutually beneficial. Currently I only swim once per week, however, I paddle most days of the week which I think must equate to a fair bit of weekly swimming. Whatever the reason, swimming has been going pretty darn well lately.
This morning the session was a fun mixed bag. The build set was a challenging set of high intensity 8 x 100m, where interval four and five where meant to be close to flat out. They went pretty well with times of 1:13 for both of them. 1:13/100m isn't scorching from a swimming perspective, but it is a decent amount of hussle for me.
The rest of the session was made up of a set of
- 400m
- 300m
- 400m
- 300m
In the last 300m I decided to give it some and once again surprised myself by swimming sub four minutes. Not scorching time again from a swimming perspective, but personally, holding sub 1:20/100m for a sustained effort is not bad going. When I was training full time I am not sure I would have been swimming those times too often.
I am not training for anything in particular with regard to swimming, but I have to say, it is fun when swimming feels good.
