Race Day

A great morning today spent watching one of the Front Runner team smashing out a Sprint Distance Triathlon.

Today wasn't Josh's first triathlon, but it was his first since he decided to take it a bit more seriously, as such it was an important one. Josh is a talented young guy who bring a great work ethic with him and so I think has the potential to go pretty quick. Today was the first step on that journey.

It was great watching him execute a pretty well put together event. A few things to work on and tweak, but the basics were pretty solid. On the whole the main area for improvement is just the general gains in speed that come with additional training. He is super keen to improve too so I have no doubt that he will do the work. He has already gone out and looked at wetsuits for his next race after seeing that most of the field had them this morning and realising that it was costing him speed. Driven is the world. Still, while Josh has areas that he can and will improve, today he still went well enough to come in 6th over all and snag 3rd in the very competitive 20 to 29 year old age group. Great way to start.

Watching these guys put together these races is an extremely fulfilling feeling. I guess it is the reward that coaches talk about. Whether the goal is going fast or simply reaching the finish line, I am finding that seeing people do the work and strive toward their goals is a wonderful feeling.

Looking forward to doing it some more in the near future.
