Tuesday morning bike sessions with the squad are all about threshold work. To be honest putting the threshold work on Thursday would make for a much better ThresholdThursday hashtag, but I can probably work with the Tuesday #ThresholdThuesday or some such thing will do I imagine.
In all seriousness it was a great session to be down for. The session today was 5 x 8 minutes at Threshold (100% FTP). One of those classic Threshold sessions. At Front Runners we tend to base our Threshold bike sessions around a total of 40 minutes of work and so 5 x 8 minutes is one of the sessions we do as we build to the ultimate threshold session of 2 x 20 minutes. 8 minutes is short enough that you can push, but not so short that you don't feel it. Looking at the faces of the squad at the end of the session, they certainly felt it. Still it was great to see the squad of 14 odd triathletes working hard to build some early season fitness and speed.
It was also nice to be out as it was the first Tuesday session in about a month where it didn't rain. It really has been uncanny just how much rain this bike session has been rained on. I wasn't in town last Tuesday, but I heard that on the whole it was a dry day, except where the bike squad was riding. No fine whether for the riders, nope rain as usual.
Not this morning though, for the first time in 4 weeks we got through the bike ride without getting wet. It was touch and go for a bit there, with some rain appearing imminent on the radar. However, for once the rain gods smiled down on us and we all got through nice and dry, and with a nice sunrise as a bonus.
With all the disruption that I have had over the past week with the travel to Dili and the unknowns regarding the heart, it was so great to get back out with the squad and get back into a bit of normal routine. I am looking for many more over the coming weeks and months.
