A little bit of adventure

A very satisfying day today. A busy one for sure, but a day in which everything got done and I have managed to finish the day feeling the warm glow of satisfaction.

The day has mainly been taken up with coaching. First up a trail run session for Front Runner and then a bit of time at Front Runner in Wembley for an athlete consult and then a bit of a technology debrief in preparation for a session later in the week.

The run this morning was particularly impressive. Front Runners have been doing a series of trail running sessions in preparation for the Mighty Jarrah Trail Run event next weekend. I haven't been to the sessions before, but from what I have seen on Social Media they have been well attended by a core group of dedicated trail runners. It looks like it has been a good program.

No matter how dedicated the group has been though, I really wasn't sure what to expect when I headed down to the session this morning. We had rain all last night and even when I was driving out to the trails it was still raining quite heavily. The forecast was ominous and the rain radar looked plain scary. I just wasn't sure who would be turning up to willingly go running in that kind of weather.

Turns out quite a few people.

In the end we had a solid group of 7 people come out for their final trail run before race day.

The rain, combined with the particular course we were running made for a morning of adventure for sure. Creek crossings, water across the path, massive puddles, the run had them all. And to everyone's credit, after 8km or 16km (depending on the event they are training for) everyone finished up the session with a big smile on their faces. Great effort all around.

As we said during the run, if people wanted to be warm, dry and comfy then they would be running on a treadmill. People come out running on the trails to get in some exercise while exploring the outdoors and having a little bit of an adventure. People certainly got that today.

The rest of the day went equally well. My athlete consult this morning was a really enjoyable chat with somebody who I will hopefully be working with in the future. Even the technology debrief seemed to go okay, although the real test for that will be on Thursday when I have to run the indoor trainer session at Front Runner. Don't want to count those chickens before they hatch.

All up a very nice day. A day that included getting quite wet and muddy several times, driving around from one end of town to the other, falling in the river and generally spending the day a little bit damp. Who could ask for anything more.

Looking forward to doing it all again soon.
