I am sitting here watching Stage 9 of the tour, and I am giving serious consideration to staying up to watch the entire thing. Stage 9 is one that may people are predicting will contain some big moves. It is probably fair to say that somebody will crack on the stage today, it just depends on who, whether it will be one of the big names, such as Porte or Froome, or one of the others. By the end of the stage I suspect we will have a much better of idea of how the rest of this Tour is going to unfurl. Exciting stuff.
I am currently watching Bardet descend like a pebble being dropped off a cliff. Amazing.
Today was our last full day in Darwin and so we have had both a busy and relaxing day doing the tourist thing.
Exercise wise I started today off with a ride. I didn't have much of a plan for the ride other than getting out and simply ride for a while. Which I did, rolling through around 70km or so. I was also keen to get down to Lake Alexander to watch some of my mates complete in a local triathlon. I had briefly thought about entering the race myself but decided it would be a safer option if I stayed away. Once I was down at the race though I couldn't help but wish that I was racing. I was feeling that way right up to about when they started racing. Watching people hurt themselves around the demanding Enduro course (3 x 200m swim, 5km ride, 1km run) I found that I wasn't so sorry to not be racing after all. Despite having a bit of race envy, it was still another great chance to catch up with some friends before heading off again tomorrow. A fun morning out in the end.
Besides getting out for a bit of a ride and catching up with some friends, we also spent a bunch of time today out at the Territory Wildlife Park, which is sort of like the Darwin Zoo. It was a very long day that involved a whole lot of walking, but it was also a great day out with the kids.
A nice way to spend a day and also a nice way to end up our visit to Darwin.
Tomorrow we are flying back down to Perth. Hopefully it will be smooth day. I have just found out that our flight has been delayed about 90 minutes, which is hopefully the last hiccough we have for the day. As tomorrow will be mostly about travel I suspect I probably won't get to writing a blog for the day. Not to worry, I will be back online on Tuesday. Now if you will excuse me I have a critical Tour stage to watch.
