I think I consider my quest for a quiet day today to be a success.
A bit of a run this morning, a trip to the markets, lots of time pottering around the house and then a paddle on the standup paddle board to finish off the day. Just what I was looking for.
The run this morning was one of those sessions that just feels so niiice. It was perfect conditions for running this morning, about 10 degrees, no wind, nothing to slow you down. My plan for the session was for an easy 16km, but I really felt like I could have just kept running. I knew though that 16km was a sensible place to leave the session. I haven't done a proper long run for a couple of weeks so I didn't want to push past 16km and risk hurting myself by pushing for too much. I will probably try for 18 or 20km next weekend, but for today 16km was enough.
I wasn't the only one out running this morning though. Today was also the HBF Run for a Reason, which is one of the more popular annual fun runs that Perth has. A neat 36,224 participants if you don't mind, across the 4km, 12km and Half Marathon events. Not a bad little turn out. I think it may actually be more popular than the City to Surf these days, although I haven't checked the numbers to back that up. I know most runners tend to prefer the Run for a Reason due to the course and the slickness of the organisers.
By the number of social media posts proclaiming PBs I suspect I wasn't the only person out enjoying the prefect running conditions this morning. Good to see so many people getting out and enjoying a wonderful autumn morning.
As I said above, the rest of my was pretty relaxing. Bits of house work and doing a bit more on my Triathlon Development Course assignment. Besides all that I did get out for a late afternoon paddle which was a nice way to finish off the day. It was a little bit windy, but that is sort of what I was after so it wasn't a bad thing. As well as spending some enjoyable stuff time out on the river I also had a close encounter of the dolphin kind.
Kind of cool, but it also gave me a bit of a fright if I am honest. I knew the dolphins were nearby (hence me having a camera ready) but I really wasn't expecting them to be that close. When they popped up it gave me a start, although I am proud to say I stayed on the board.
I have had a few close dolphin encounters over the years and I have always been impressed by their playful intelligence. I am fairly sure that today the dolphins were so close because they were checking me out. Once they were assured that I was harmless they disappeared down the river again.
It is moments like these that are why I love being outside in the world doing exercise. You never know what sights and experiences you are going to have.
