Back Home

Home again, home again.

Operation family camping trip has been successfully executed. Our little nuclear family went, we had fun at a prodigious rate, we relaxed and we managed to get home alive. I consider it mission accomplished.

The last couple of days really have been awesome. Our family hasn't been camping for a while, but it is something we used to do a fair bit, so it was great to get back out and do it again, particularly now that the kids are a little bit older.

Home away from home
As is often the way with a family trips though, now that it is done we are all totally exhausted and glad to be home. Need a holiday to get over our little camping holiday. Our couple of days of camping were jammed packed with activities, exploring caves, snorkeling, playing in rock pools, eating ice cream, just to name a few. It was go, go, go. We now have two exhausted kids and mum and dad aren't too far behind.

Besides hanging out and getting some quality family time, there were also some unique opportunities for training. The campsite we were staying in was near the Cape to Cape track in the Margaret River region. The Cape to Cape track runs for 135km along the Leeuwin-Naturaliste Ridge between the lighthouses of Cape Naturaliste and Cape Leeuwin. I have run on parts of the track before, but more towards the northern end. This camping trip gave me a chance to explore parts of the southern end a bit more.

The Cape to Cape track is a pretty fun place to run. It is not a running trail, more intended for walking, as such it has large mix of surfaces and some fairly technical sections over rocks etc. Not to mention traversing a large cross section of environs. In two days I ran across coastal ridges, along beaches and through forests.

What a place to run
It was not fast running, and some of it was fairly hard work, but all of it was a lot of fun and a nice way to get a bit of variety into my training.

As well as camping, the last couple of days has also bought me some more progress on my heart. On Friday I made contact with Dr Stobie my soon to be Cardiologist. It was a brief conversation, but he has organised me to get a MRI on Tuesday and also to get fitted with a holter monitor early this week. This latest round of tests is to give some insight into the current state of affairs with my heart. The MRI in particular is to rule out some of the more dire causes of funny heart rhythms. The MRI and the holter monitor should also give the Cardiologist an idea of treatment options, if any.

I don't know what the tests are going to reveal, if anything, but it is great to be getting this next stage of testing and treatment underway. One way or another it will be good to get this heart trouble resolved.
