Yesterday was just one of those days. Busy day of training, busy day at work, busy evening. In the end it came down to a decision between writing a blog and sleeping. Sorry dear reader, I value you all, but if it comes down to choosing between writing and sleeping, sleeping is going to win out every time.
What made the day so mad? Well as I have said it was a combination of a number of things.
In the morning I was on the Kickr for a bit of a spin. That is where the morning went. Yesterday at work I was in meetings for 5 hours out of my 8 hours. That left a delightful three hours to actually do some work and eat lunch. That is where the day went. Then in the evening I crammed in not one, but two runs. That is where the evening went. It doesn't sound all that bad when I type it like that but believe me by the time I made it home just before 9:00 I was ready for sleeping.
Why two runs I hear you ask? If you aren't you should be.
Well, that is just one of those funny things that happen in life sometimes. Last night was the local launch of the 2017 Mizuno range, so there was a bit of a function. What sort of function do you have for the launch of a shoe range? You go running of course. Heading in I wasn't exactly sure how far or fast we were likely to be running, but I made a guess that we would probably be doing a steady 5km. The problem was that I also had a proper run session to do yesterday afternoon. I didn't want to miss my actual run session, but I also didn't want to stack the two runs together and do some crazy miles. In the end I compromised and cut my run session a couple of kms short had a little break and then did the Mizuno run. I ran slightly further than I had originally planned, but the intensity was a bit lower. Kind of worked out alright in the end I think. Probably.
The Mizuno run was cool though. They had a bunch of different shoes to try out and so I got to go for a run in the new Mizuno Horizon. For the last few years I have always used the Mizuno Wave Inspire as my training shoe. Good support, lasts well, does everything I have ever needed them to. Think of it a bit like an Asics GT-2000 if that makes more sense to people. No wonder it is Mizuno Australia's best selling shoe. The Mizuno Horizon is similar to the Wave Inspire, but has a more advanced support system, more forefoot support and plusher ride. Going back to the Asics analogy it the Mizuno equivalent of the Kayano. I only had 5km in the shoe, but I enjoyed the time that I had. It does everything it says on the box. The Mizuno guys said that the support and cushioning of the shoe is designed so that it feels comfortable as soon as you put it on. I found that an interesting description, but it was very true. When it comes to replace my current pair of Wave Inspire I think I may be changing.

New Horizons? |
The feeling of lethargy was still there a little bit for this morning's Red Mist session with Swim Smooth, but it was manageable. I had a few patches where I felt like I was struggling, but I was able to get through the whole session. It wasn't a stellar swim I have to admit, but at this stage I will settle for survival.
Australia Day tomorrow, which means a day off, so if you think about it today is kind of like a Friday. Hooray.
