A day of wild weather and missed opportunities today
The forecast in Perth this weekend is for wet, wet weather. Wild and horrible is the general gist. Certainly last night and most of today that is what we have had. Seeing the forecast and hearing the weather that we had overnight I was straight onto the Kickr this morning, no second thoughts. Unfortunately, about the only period of time that we have had any clear weather today was for a period of a few hours this morning. Pretty much about the same time that I spent on the Kickr.
There is nothing quite like slaving your way through a few hours on the Kickr to then get off and realise that you could have spent that time riding on the road. Always a bit of a forehead slap moment.
Still, besides needlessly spending a few hours sweating inside the session went well. The ride this morning was a shorter one, a mere 90km. With such a short ride it was easy to fall into the trap of thinking it would be easy. However, as well as being shorter, it was also the first Saturday ride I have had in a while that had formal intervals in it. Just the sort of session that suits the Kickr and just the sort of session that hurts a lot when you do it. As a result I was fairly stuffed by the end. It was a good outcome though. Three hours on the bike above what has previously been my 70.3 race power levels. A very positive session.
Three hours on the Kickr isn't the entire extent of today's excitement though. Since finishing on the bike we have packed up the family and the dog and headed up to Guilderton for the rest of the weekend. Always a fun place to spend a Wintery weekend, rugged up around the potbelly. Hopefully it will be a relaxing mini weekend away. I am also hoping it will be a good place to get some training done too. Tomorrow I have the session which is the reason for today's short ride, a proper long run. In fact tomorrow's run will be the longest run I have done for quite some time.
I will be interested to see how the run goes up here at Guilderton since I have struggled with long runs up here before. I think the longest I have done is about 24km and that required running over the same hilly road a couple of times. On the drive in today I noticed a dirt road that I haven't run down before so I think I might give that an explore tomorrow. Hopefully the weather isn't too nasty making a had session even tougher.
Besides going for a run tomorrow I may also attempt a swim in the Moore River, but I suspect that might be contingent on the weather that turns up. If the weather is anything like what is going on outside at the moment I think I might struggle to find motivation just a little. I will wait and see tomorrow though, the run is certainly the key session of the day.
That is for tomorrow though. For now I have a glass of wine and a pottbelly stove to get familiar with.
