The warmer options

Another motivationally challenging day today. Not the sort of day where it is hard to get going because you have a 30km run to do, but more the sort of day where it is hard to get going because you had a 30km run yesterday and you have just got back from a weekend away with the family and all you really want to do is sit on the couch and groan quietly.

Training today was actually very easy, just a nice active recovery session in the pool. Get down and move around a bit. The plan was to do some technique work. The effort required to get myself there though was not insignificant. As I have mentioned above, about the last thing I felt like doing after getting back from Guilderton was heading out again and doing exercise. Not only was I tired, but I was considering cold blooded murder for a shower. One thing I didn't mention yesterday is that for our stay at Guilderton this time around there was a problem with the hot water system. Which meant when I got back from my long run in the rain there was no hot shower waiting for me. It is surprising just how high up a priority list showering can get. That combined with a bunch of other circumstances meant I was not particularly keen for my recovery session.

Still I got myself down there. I chose a technique session from the Swim Smooth Guru to give me some inspiration and I got myself in the pool. As is usually the way with these things once I was underway the session went by with typical ease. Plus it was good to spend some time in the pool early in the week. Swimming is still definitely the weak point at the moment, so every session is important. Consistency is the secret here.

On the bike in the morning and it is a session that is supposed to be done on the road, but the current plan is to do it on the Kickr. A couple of key reasons for this one. Firstly the bike is already on the Kickr and I am feeling amazingly lazy right now. I could spend the next 20 minutes getting the bike off the Kickr, setting the power meter up for the road etc or I could leave it where it is and go to bed. Guess which option I am in favour of. The second reason is that the weather tomorrow is supposed to be somewhere in the neighbourhood of freezing. That will probably mean a beautifully clear morning perfect for riding, but it will also mean being really darn cold. Colder than I really have the will for at the moment. So for tomorrow I am taking the easy(ish) option. Bed now, Kickr in the morning. I may regret that decision later, but I suspect I won't. I like getting at least one session in on the Kickr each week anyway, and so tomorrow can be that one.

Now, I need me a warm shower and a warmer bed.

Good night.
