A very pleasant day of training today. A very pleasant day in general actually.
No work today, which tends to help with the pleasantness. Nice weather too, which doesn't hurt either.
As I mentioned yesterday, I managed to get out for a sneaky ride this morning. Even got a free coffee out of it which was a bit of a win. Vault Cycles, which is a local bike mechanic, often sets up a coffee van and free bike checks near the Narrows Bridge near the city. Nice promotional activity I have to say. I have often driven past it on my way to work wishing I was on the bike instead and so it was nice to be able to actually stop off and have a coffee and a chat for once.
Free coffee and a chat sums my ride up quite nicely. I am not a fan of the term junk miles, and I don't necessarily think my ride this morning was junk, but it certainly wasn't really with focus either. It was cycling for the simple joy of cycling. Which I think is just a little bit of okay sometimes. It was a lovely time out.
Swimming this afternoon, and today's session was another relaxed one. My daughter has as swimming lesson on Friday afternoons and I thought I would take the opportunity to get in a couple of comfortable kms. The swim was in a 25m pool, which isn't ideal, but at least my turns got a good work out. I went into the session with no real plan other than to just swim. I don't usually like going into a swim session without a session plan since I think it can lead to aimless sessions that don't necessarily achieve much. However, at the moment my main goal is getting in some miles and rolling the arms over and so that is what I set out to achieve. Goal met. Actually whilst it was only a relaxed session I was quite happy with how it went. In the end I did some longer bits of continuous swimming, 5 or 600m at a time. It isn't a lot, but it is the furthest I have swum continuously since returning to the pool. The arm held up to the swimming fine which is good to see. In fact I think the radial head fracture is nearly all good. I am getting very little pain from it these days, to the point that I almost forget about it. I can't bear full weight all the time on that arm yet, but it isn't really hurting during riding or swimming anymore.
On the bike in the morning. It was looking like it was going to be a little wet in the morning, but that all seems to have cleared up, so riding on the road is all good to go. Tomorrow's ride is going to be something a little different with a trip into the hills with the Break Your Limits Junior team. I say junior, but really these are some of the quickest triathletes in WA and so I suspect it could be a tough morning out. Coming along will be Liam McCoach who has just been selected in the Junior Australian Team. Could be a good workout. Looking forward to it.
