Lots to see

Well it has been interesting seeing the response to my post from Thursday about being a bit more responsible cyclist around pedestrians. There has certainly been quite a bit of feedback across the various media platforms and it is heartening to see that most of it is positive. I have had a few comments from people saying that it is all well and good trying to do the right thing, but they have still had people yell at them when they have rung bells and/or yelled out a warning. Sadly I must say I have had similar experiences myself. I guess, in the end, no matter what we do there are still going to be difficult people in the world who are going to like complaining no matter what we do. Still my view is that the rudeness and ignorance of a few is not a good reason to stop being polite to the whole. It is an attitude that I have seen a lot of cyclists bring into their interactions with cars, much to their credit. As frustrating as it can be trying to remain calm and polite when another person is intent on being irate and rude, historically not much good has come from meeting anger with anger. All very zen, I know, but I do think that approaching these sorts of situations, whether they be bike/pedestrian or bike/car, with common sense, a willingness to compromise and an attempt to understand an alternative view point is the best way for us all to share our public spaces in peace.

Anyway, moving on from that.

Big, big day of racing in the next 24 hours. So much racing I think my brain may explode. There is Ironman Cairns and Cairns 70.3 tomorrow. Japan 70.3 (a race close to my heart), Boulder 70.3, Escape from Alcatraz, just to name a few, I know there are others as well. I have friends racing all over the world, I simply don't think I will be able to keep track of them all, although I am looking forward to trying.

I am particularly keen to watch Ironman Cairns, I have a number of mates going after real milestones at that race. Tim Green and Lucy Thompson going for their first full Ironman events. Tom Kroyer, Gary Couanis doing who are doing Ironman number who knows, but both in great form and on track for good days out. Maybe Kona, who knows. Johan Borg who has been training really well for a while now and is definitely due a good result. And that is not mentioning all the friends doing Cairns 70.3. Should be exciting.

As well as race tracking, I also plan on doing just a little bit of training. Long run day tomorrow which should be fun. It is a slightly longer one this week which I am looking forward to. What I am not looking forward to is the forecast storms. We will have to wait and see what turns up. At the moment it looks like the rain could be a little later in the day, so fingers crossed I can get the run done before it really sets in. That is the current forecast, but who knows what that actually means. There might be a swim in the day there too, we shall see.

Running tomorrow should be interesting as it will definitely be on tired legs. A bit of an epic ride today, one of the longest I have done in quite some time. More or less a century (100 miles) in the hills of Perth. Despite the length and a decent amount of climbing I actually came out of the ride feeling surprisingly good. Weary after time in the saddle, but not shattered. Very enjoyable ride too, I got to see some beautiful roads through the hills of Perth on an absolutely lovely Winters morning. Given what the weather is meant to be tomorrow, it was great to be able to be out riding on a nice clear, crisp morning. The ride this morning was also a very good step towards proper Ironman training. Although after about 150km we did have the usual conversation about 'hey we haven't even finished the ride leg yet'. Still these things are a gradual build, today was a good step in that process though.

Now time to go and set up some athlete trackers. Hopefully they are working smoothly.
