Good Friday

Lovely day spent at home today. A bit of relaxing, a bit of training, a bit of errand running. Quite a satisfying way to spend a Friday.

The big training news was the swim this morning. My first Friday Swim Smooth Threshold Session back in the 'Fast' lane. Sort of an unusual Threshold session, which is usually quite short and sharp, with a number of longer efforts in the session, including a 300m and a 600m. Like with the Wednesday swim I was off the pace of the lane for some of the efforts, but I was able to hold on for most of it. Reassuring to back up from the swim on Wednesday too, which left me with a bit of fatigue. Today's swim makes a couple of good solid swims for the week so far. An open water swim on Sunday should just about finish off a good week of progression in the pool. Next week the aim will be more of the same, but with a few more miles. Hopefully the progression continues.

The day also included a visit to Churchill Cycles, which typically means a good day. Today was just a new pair of gloves. I am not far from a bike purchasing visit though, one of those will be coming up in the next few weeks to sort out my next race bike.

Speaking of bikes, bike riding time tomorrow and once again the weather in Perth appears to be pulling out all the stops. The forecast for the morning is for clear and chilly, perfect bike weather. The plan for the session is heading out for another tour of the hills with Break Your Limits. I haven't ridden the hills much in my few years of being a triathlete in Perth (despite previously living in the hills), so these rides over the last few weeks have been great journeys of discovery for me. Every road revealing a previously unseen site or an unridden hill. My days of riding in the hills are numbered, with long flat interval sessions not far away, but I am enjoying these sessions while they are lasting. Looking forward to another one in the morning.

All that is to come in the morning though. First, I have some sleep to catch up on. Last night I was in bed early enough etc, but I just simply didn't sleep that well. One of those mornings where I woke up early and wasn't able to get back to sleep. I have felt surprisingly good all day despite the lack of sleep. I really will need to get a proper sleep tonight though. I should probably get on with that.
