Flying solo

I think I have come to the conclusion that I am not a team player.

Don't get me wrong I like people. Some of my best friends are people. But I think I don't need to train around them all the time. A few times a week, yep sure, I love me a good squad session a few times a week. but definitely not every day. Perhaps that is why nearly all the sports I have done have been solo ones.

I had this realisation while I was out riding this morning. Coming into the session today I was really keen to be out on the bike. But during the session I realised that my enthusiasm wasn't just because I enjoy riding, I was also looking forward to riding by myself. Something about being out on a bike with nothing but you, the bike and the road. Nowhere to be but on the bike. There is a certain kind of peace to it. Time to be in your own head. To be honest at the end of my session I would have liked nothing more than to just keep riding. Trust me I was sort of tempted. I had an important meeting at work today, but if I hadn't I would have given some serious thought to just keeping on going.

Not that is was a particularly magic morning to be on the bike. It rained a bit last night. Not much, but just enough that the roads were wet and grubby. Now my bike is wet and grubby. The very wet road adverse part of me was very tempted to jump on the trainer, but I knew it would stuff up my plans. Plus, it wasn't actually raining at the time. I am glad I stuck to the plan, the bike almost certainly needs a clean now, but I enjoyed the session out on the road much more than I would have on the Kickr. Lovely bit of sunrise.

Speaking of squad training though, a bit more of that tomorrow. Tomorrow morning I will have another attempt at a Wednesday morning Swim Smooth session. Definitely a training session I don't mind doing with other people. It went okay last week, so hopefully this week is similar. I have done a bit more swimming this week and so there might be a bit more fatigue, but we will see. Swimming is still in a fairly rapid phase of improvement as I regain my fitness, which is always fun. Not too hard to stay motivated when you see gains each session. When the improvements start to plateau is when the grind starts.

Time for a little bit more of a ride before then though. I have to get home somehow.
