Change of plans

Well in the end a compromise was reached this morning. The forecast turned out to be more or less exactly correct. There was rain, but it was all done and gone by the very early morning (4:30am). That means I could have gone out riding and I wouldn't have got wet, although the roads would have still been damp, plus it was quite windy. The trick of course was that no one had any idea whether this morning was going to be dry like was forecast, or whether it was going to rain for most of the morning.

As a result, last night I decided that whatever the weather brought I would head out running this morning. Doing my long run today and moving my ride to tomorrow made a lot of sense. The idea had occurred to me earlier in the week, but I was reluctant to do so given my sore achilles. I was keen to give it as much time to rest as possible before heading out for my long run. However, by last night my achilles was feeling pretty okay, so running this morning I went.

Nice run in the end. Fairly cruisy with a little bit of higher intensity stuff. It was still very windy, but I find that to be less of a factor when I run. The achilles has pulled up quite well too. A bit sorer than before the run, but not too bad, and certainly a lot better than after my long run last Sunday.

The best thing about having run this morning is that I will get to head out on the bike tomorrow. At the moment it is looking like tomorrow morning is going to be quite lovely. A bit chilly, but light winds and no rain. My only concern is that it will be my first real ride out on the road for many weeks. I have no concerns about fitness etc, that should all be fine, but more around bike handling and comfort. Still there is no better way to get comfortable on a bike again than getting out on the bike and so that is what tomorrow will be all about. Actually I am quite looking forward to getting out for a good, long, cruisy ride in the hills.

Going to be great to finally be out on the bike.
