A bit of a win/lose day today, with a dash of reality thrown in for good measure. Sounds a bit like a receipe, but if somebody baked my day into a cake I wouldn't have been impressed.
The win bit came this morning when I got in a run to make up for not running yesterday. A nice bit of distance done at an easy intensity, just getting some miles in the legs. The legs approved too, running easy, with a nice cruisy heart rate. Noice. Something to build on there.
The loss bit came later in the day when I wasn't able to make it down the pool for a swim this afternoon. This is where reality had a bite too. Basically I got stuck at work. I occasionally have to attend all day meetings which have a habit of getting out of hand. It can be a frustrating experience because you can't do much to hurry it along and you can't really leave early, so you are stuck just waiting it out. Today's meeting went until about 4:45pm (it started at 9:00am), which meant by the time I got back to my office (the meeting was offsite) it was 5:15. Even if I had the mental capacity left to train (or do anything other than stare at a wall) after being in a meeting for nearly 8 hours I simply didn't have the time. To be honest I didn't really have the will either, by that time I really just wanted to get home and see my family for a little while. The frustrating reality of trying to fit in both training and work. Still I can't complain too much, nobody forces me to do it. However, if somebody paid me not to, then that would be nice too.
Still not a total loss yet, luckily swimming is one of those sessions that I can easily fit in elsewhere. I will have a couple of opportunities to squeeze in a swim later in the week. If I am honest none of those times will fit quite an nicely as Monday afternoon would have, but then again beggars can't be choosers. Well I guess they can be, but the choices they get usually aren't very nice.
Kickr in the morning and I am very keen for the session. Part of the reason for my keenness is because of the entertainment I have lined up for the session. I will give you a hint, it all happened in a Galaxy far, far away...
