Deviousness

A bit of a confession to make. I was supposed to do a brick session yesterday and I didn't. In fact I actually had the day off and spent it relaxing (we even went to a friends house and had dinner, Ooooo, La dee da).

However, the reason that I didn't get to the brick session wasn't my usual excuse of being slack. This time around it was fairly well concieved I think. The low grade tear I got in my calf last week has been steadily improving. But every session I have done has tweaked it a little bit. Not enough to put me back to square one, but enough to prevent full recovery. This had happened again during my many hours on the Kickr on Saturday and my suspicion was that if I ran on Sunday it would just make it worse.

I knew I had a recovery day today. so I made the call to move the recovery day to Sunday to give my body a chance to recover (surely the point after all). Doing the brick this morning instead.

Pretty happy with my decision, since it now seems like my devious plan worked out. I got through my brick this morning with a bit of tightness, but no flare up of the calf. On top of that the session went really well, but to be honest that was just icing on the cake. Getting through the run without further calf pain was the real goal in my mind.

The ride part of the session was a bit of a slog to get myself going, but in the end went well enough. The run was where all my attention was though. From the first step it felt good and I knew I was up for a decent session. It was good to be out running again and be pretty much unimpaired by pain. I faded a bit towards the back end of the run, but that is partly because of a push during the 3rd quarter, rendering the 4th quarter painful. Also not helped by the howling wind. Still a really positive step to be running again. Still improvements to be made, but I am slowly getting back to form with the running.

Things are falling into place.
