It has been a wet old day here in Perth today. It was always forecast to be, but you never quite know with the weather forecast. I have certainly been burnt before, making plans around a rainy forecast only to get to the morning and finding glorious clear skys. That didn't happen this morning.
In an attack of fruitless optimism I didn't set up the trainer last night. Telling myself that 'you never know'. However, when I woke up in the middle of the night and heard the driving the rain, I knew.
I haven't quite got over my optimism though because I ended up moving my long bike ride to tomorrow morning and instead doing my shorter Sunday ride to this morning. There is always a chance that the forecast is wrong and it will be clear in the morning. You never know...
On the rather likely chance that it is raining in the morning then I am facing he prospect of three hours on the trainer. Not exactly appealing. I am a big advocate of the benefits of doing work on a trainer, but I have certain limits. I will have to wait and see. I suspect that if it is wet, but not torrential then I might end up on the road anyway. Wouldn't be the first time. If it is mildly cyclonic though, well then that is what windtrainers are for.
The trainer session this morning was a good one though. Just 90 minutes of solid spinning. Also a good chance to catch up on highlight packages for the Giro d'Italia. I have been pretty slack this year and haven't been following it that closely, so it was good to catch up on what was a fairly action packed first week.
Other activities for the day, other than hiding indoors and snuggling up against the rain, have been a trip to the physio and a trip to the pool. The physio was another step in the right direction with all indications being that I should be able to return to running next week. The diagnosis is plantar fascitis, but it looks like I got onto it quite early and so Simon from Sportreat is optimistic.
The swim session was a good one too. Motivation to get to the pool was challenged a little on the drive to the pool through the rain. Things improved though once I was there and into the warm pool. There might have only been five of us there, but we all got a good work out from the session.
That is training all done for the day. The weather has settled in again and so it looks like it might be time to retire back inside and get back to the snuggling. Somebody has to.
