Another late post. I have had two solid days of training yesterday and today which has meant I haven't had much spare time during the day. Unfortunately this isn't the fun sort of training, but rather the work sort. Which whilst interesting, isn't generally how I prefer to be spending my time.
Work training hasn't taken up all my time though so I have still been able to fit in proper training. This morning that took the form of a ride. This morning's ride was very similar to one I had on Tuesday afternoon and involved a lot of short, sharp hill repeats. These hills are a bit different to the normal ones that I do, so it required the finding of new hills. The hills that I tried on Tuesday worked okay, but I wasn't convinced that they were sharp enough. So this morning I tried a new one and it was much more convincing in both its shortness and its sharpness. I started off the session feeling only okay, but by the time I had finished up both the hills and the session I was feeling much better about the whole affair. In the end it was a nicely solid session.
The other thing I got up to today was a trip to the physio. I have been lucky enough to stay away from the physio for the last few months. But for a while now I have had a niggle in my right heel that has refused to go away. I have been putting up with it and getting through training and racing, but recently it has got a bit harder to ignore so I figured it was probably time to get it looked into. The other day I mentioned my first trip to Sportreat Sports Medicine Clinic for a massage. I was impressed by my massage so I thought I would try out one of the physios there today. So far so good, certainly a positive trip, both in terms of physio experience and prognosis. The physio I saw, Simon, knew his stuff and like all good sports physios had an understanding of the twisted psyche that lies behind athletes that makes them want to keep exercising despite clearly being injured.
Prognosis wise it looks like it could be a strain of some kind in the area where all the muscles and tendons from the ankle, foot, calf etc tie together under the foot. Sounds unpleasant but actually looks like it may not be that bad. Fingers crossed anyway. I have another visit on Saturday which will hoepfully reveal a bit more.
Swimming in the morning. Almost certainly will be painful, but I am quite looking forward to it.
Also some big sponsorship news tomorrow too.
