Today's schedule was mostly taken up with being a stay at home dad. There is nothing quite like 90 minutes spent with a child asleep on you. I can think of no reason I would rather be stuck sitting on a couch unable to get up than that. Sure I could have gotten up and put my son into bed, but then again, why would I. They are only small enough to sleep on you for so long.
Besides being at home today with the kids and the various activities that go with that, I also did a bit of training today. Quite a long swim session this morning, which was a bit of a shoulder killer in the end. The basic Swim Smooth Friday session is never a walk in the park, but add on a couple of extra km on top of that and you can find yourself lost in fatigueville fairly quickly.
The session went well though. I started off slow, looking for excuses if I am honest. I never really started feeling great, but got through all the same and made it through more easily than I was expecting. Sometimes you just need to grit your teeth and get on with it.
Speaking of getting on with it, I did get out for my run last night. In the end I was surprised how it easy it was to get myself out the door. I was expecting to have to really psych myself up for a near 25km run session. But when the time came I just walked out the door and got on with it. And enjoyed it. Surprisingly the session went better than the equivalent session on Tuesday afternoon, despite the extra fatigue I was carrying. I think the improvement was really due to better pacing, which shows how important that can be.
Tired now though, a busy day being a parent can really take it out of you. A very solid bike session on the schedule tomorrow morning. But before that I, time for sleep.
