Steaming

Down to the pool for a swim this morning. Being the last swim session before the Albany Half on the weekend, I was in my wetsuit. As always it was a lot of fun being in the wetsuit, although slightly less fun that normal. The hot weather we have been having in Perth this week meant that the water temperature was fairly high, so I was absolutely steaming hot. I felt a bit like a cooked lobster by the end.

As seems to be the norm, I was given a bit of a hard time when I rocked up in the wetsuit. Everybody in the squad likes to have a few words about unfair assistance, cheating etc. It is all very good natured and I am fairly used to it by now, but each time it also makes me shake my head a little bit. As baffling as some people might find training in the wetsuit before every race, I find it equally baffling that people don't do the same. Swimming in a wetsuit is quite different to swimming without one, not giving yourself a least a bit of a chance to adjust to the differences before a race seems like a strange choice to me. Each to their own I guess.

Aside from people's opinions of training in wetsuits and the almost overheating, the swim went well. Given the speed gains of using a wetsuit, I ended up doing the session on my own, with my own set of times. It was a nice solid set in the end with 10 x 400m on the program. It was nice to see that the pace was similar to what I was holding pre-Mandurah. Swim training is always tough over the Christmas period with no squad to work with. So seeing that I seem to have come through the festive season with swimming without losing to much was a relief. Another good step leading into Albany.

On the trainer tonight for the last bike session pre-race. A bit of a spin with some race pace efforts to get the legs going. Normally I wouldn't use the P5 on the trainer (too sweaty) but I think I probably will tonight. Always good to get time on the race bike, besides the power meter etc it is all set up and good to go and I can't be bothered changing it over.

Tomorrow I have a bit of a run on the program and then a bit of a drive down to Albany on the schedule. I will see how I am going in terms of internet connectivity once I am down in Albany as to whether or not I am doing updates from down there. Hopefully I will be online, however, if not then I will be posting updates on Facebook which can be found by following the link to the left.
